The Day He Swims Thru Marrakech
BOOK OF THE FILM ‘LA CONTROFIGURA’ (THE STAND-IN) BY RÄ DI MARTINO: THE TALE OF A CINEMA TROUPE IN MARRAKECH (MOROCCO) TRYING TO SHOOT THE REMAKE OF ‘THE SWIMMER’, THE 1968 MOVIE WITH BURT LANCASTER, BASED ON A SHORT STORY OF THE SAME NAME BY JOHN CHEEVER. THROUGH BACKSTAGE PHOTOGRAPHS AND FRAGMENTS OF LANDSCAPE, THE BOOK TELLS OF A CITY OF CONTRASTS, MOVING THROUGH THE CHROMATIC SPECTRUM OF THE LIGHT WATERY BLUE OF LUXURIOUS SWIMMING POOLS AND THE BURNT PINK OF THE DESERT. THE BOOK IS PUBLISHED AS PART OF THE ‘MUSEO CHIAMA ARTISTA’ PROJECT, PROMOTED BY THE MIBACT AND AMACI – ASSOCIATION OF ITALIAN CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUMS AND PUBLISHED BY HUMBOLDT BOOKS. |

CONTROFIGURA
2017 feature film written and produced by Marco Alessi & Ra di Martino for Dugong Films, In Between Art and Film, Snaporazverein & Produzioni Illuminati with: Valeria Golino e Filippo Timi. Corrado Sassi, Younes Bouab, Nadia Kounda, Nisrine Adam, Ahmed Zaitouni. A small crew is going around Marrakech and its surroundings looking for swimming pools to find locations for the remake of an American movie in which a man crosses a county, pool by pool, to reach his home. Corrado, a ‘stand-in’, tries the shots to find the path through the city and the pools that the main character will run and swim through. At the same time it’s as if the need to become more than just a stand-in takes over him. Corrado feels all the dignity of an actor and he wants to demonstrate he could be as good as any other professional actor. And so, while we observe his struggles, we start seeing the real actors and crew working on set between doubts and shouts. A film looking for where the real film is. |
